The City of Deltona has unveiled an opportunity for residents seeking higher education by launching the 2024 William S. Harvey Scholarship, which provides financial assistance for academic pursuits at recognized Florida institutes of higher learning. The Deltona city administration announced that applications for this prestigious scholarship are now accessible on the City's official website and from the guidance offices of Deltona, Pine Ridge, and University High Schools.

The 2024 William S. Harvey Scholarship offers aspiring scholars a chance to chase their educational dreams by providing financial support. Eligible applicants include those who have received acceptance for enrollment at an accredited Florida community college, college, university, or technical school. However, individuals who previously received the scholarship twice are ineligible for reapplication. Applicants must submit their completed applications to the City Clerk's Office at Deltona City Hall, at 2345 Providence Boulevard, before 5 p.m. on February 2, 2024. Alternatively, applicants can opt to have their submissions postmarked by 5 p.m. on January 29, 2024.

Scholarships will be granted based on various criteria, including the applicant's financial needs, academic accomplishments, and active involvement in educational and community organizations or programs.

Additionally, an essay is mandatory as part of the application process.

The selection process for the William S. Harvey Scholarship is managed by the Scholarship Selection Committee, which will evaluate applications using a predetermined ranking system. The committee will then present their recommendations to the Deltona City Commission for the final selection of awardees.

Named in honor of former Deltona City Commissioner and Vice Mayor William S. Harvey, the scholarship aims to support families and children, a cause close to Harvey's heart.
