Welcome to DYB Charters & Yacht Sales

DYB Charters & Yacht Sales imageIn 1978 DYB started its existence as Donhauser's Yacht Brokerage in Lighthouse Point, Florida. The mid 80's saw us as Endeavour Yachts largest sailboat dealer in the U.S., and managing a charter fleet, of both power and sailboats, from the area in South Florida. Charters, management, vessel refits, and yacht sales, along with my personal involvement as a licensed captain, on several large motor yachts and sportfish, have given me significant experience along the East Coast of the U.S., Florida, The Bahamas, The Caribbean, Mexico's Atlantic and Pacific Coasts, as well as several Italian ports in the Mediterranean.

I look forward to speaking directly with you, regarding your boating needs. As a licensed and bonded Florida broker for 25 years now, and a U S Coast Guard licensed captain with a 100 ton license, I hope to gain your trust and confidence, and work for you, as your broker. Listing agreements, contracts, deposits held in escrow, trial runs, boat and engine surveys, loans, payoffs, title work, insurance, and closings require a knowledgeable, experienced broker, working in your interest, to have both buyers and sellers leaving the closing table happy.

In addition to being a member of the Smyrna Yacht Club, I am a member of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, Marine Source Multiple Listing Service, and Yacht Council Limited Listing Service. Our computer and Internet services continue to expand, so that we can offer you the best possible service. Changes in MLS/Internet services and the Internet has forced changes in marketing techniques. When you as a buyer search the internet and click on a particular boat, you are dealing directly with the listing broker. Remember this when it comes time to write a contract, as the loyalty of the listing broker is to the person selling the boat, NOT YOU THE BUYER. A few brokers can do a fine job representing both parties, but just be aware, and consider using a broker as your "buyers" agent to assist in the search and purchase, before writing a contract !!!!

Normally a 10% deposit accompanies all purchase offers. The deposit is held in our escrow account until the purchase is completed or rejected. The contract is usually written so that the purchase is subject to "trial run and survey(s) satisfactory to the buyer". This allows for a good inspection of the boat as well as an opportunity to see and feel the boat in action. The larger the boat the more extensive the survey will get. On a smaller boat a marine surveyor can do the entire job. Once we move up in size it is advisable to include a separate engine survey, and if needed both an electronics and electrical survey. On metal boats an audiogauge is strongly recommended. Title searches and abstracts should be required prior to any closing.

Since I own my company, my only interest is to work for you, as your agent, and make sure that you are in the right boat. This costs you nothing additional as all commissions are usually paid by the seller. I will make you aware of what you are buying, both the upside and the downside. Your boat may not be in our backyard, so I am happy to travel wherever necessary to make sure we have found "your" boat, and it is as represented by the listing. Please give me a call, as I would appreciate the opportunity to assist you, and your friends, with your boating needs, whether it be power or sail.

Until we have the opportunity to meet, please stay in touch at www.dybyachts.com or email directly at: howard-dybyachts@cfl.rr.com. If you have an emergency I can be reached on my cel phone at 386-295-5628.
