Explore Volusia’s Nature Adventures: March Outdoor Activities
Embark on an outdoor adventure with Explore Volusia. This month, Explore Volusia has a full slate of activities for locals and visitors to enjoy from eco-buggy tours to biking and hiking, there is something for everyone! Registration is required for all listed events, visit

Bike and Hike
When: 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6
Where: Lake Monroe Park, 975 S. Charles Richard Beall Blvd., DeBary
Requirements: Ages 10 and up, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must bring their own bicycle and wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes.
Join Explore Volusia on a 5-mile bike ride from Lake Monroe Park to Gemini Springs and back. Enjoy a pit stop for a 2-mile hike, allowing you to dive into the beauty of the Gemini Springs Conservation Area and explore the surrounding park.
Spruce Creek Hike
When: 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13
Where: Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve at Martin’s Dairy Entrance, 1755 Martin’s Dairy Road, Port Orange
Requirements: Ages 10 and up, but children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
Explore Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve on this a 2.25-mile hike. See the beauty of this unique preserve and enjoy spectacular views of the Spruce Creek from the bluffs on the shore.
Deep Creek Paddling Trip
When: 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19
Where: Deering Preserve, 1615 Osteen Maytown Road, Osteen
Requirements: Ages 12 and up, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must provide their own watercraft (kayaks or canoes), personal flotation devices (PFDs), and whistles. PFDs must be worn while paddling.
Come paddle Deering Preserve with Explore Volusia Education Specialist, Tommy Nordmann, and Green Volusia Volunteers Environmental Specialist, Holly Giles. Step back in time to “old Florida” and experience the black waters and towering Cypress trees of Deep Creek.
Longleaf Pine Preserve Eco-Buggy Tour
When: 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22
Where: Longleaf Pine Preserve, 4551 Pioneer Trail, New Smyrna Beach
Requirements: All ages are welcome and participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
Take a ride on the Eco-buggy with Explore Volusia Education Specialist, Tommy Nordmann, and Green Volusia Volunteers Environmental Specialist, Holly Giles, to tour the far east side of Longleaf Pine Preserve. This section of the preserve offers a variety of unique habitats, including scrub and flatwoods, to explore.
Deep Creek Bike Ride
When: 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 28
Where: Deep Creek Preserve, 964 S. SR-415, New Smyrna Beach
Requirements: Ages 10 and up, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must bring their own bicycle and wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes.
*Road bikes are not recommended as the trails will not be paved.
