The City of New Smyrna Beach, New Smyrna Beach Utilities, and the Florida Forest Service has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation's Energy-Saving Trees program to provide residents with a free tree. The initiative comes after the success of a first tree giveaway at SpringFest on Canal Street last month.
Residents can choose from the Baldcypress, Dahoon Holly, Japanese Blueberry, Leyland Cypress, Live Oak, or Nellie R. Stevens Holly and visit https://bit.ly/43IcOA1 to claim their free tree. The chosen tree will be delivered directly to their homes at no charge.
According to a release, Trees around homes help reduce energy requirements, add to property value, improve air quality, and more effectively catch stormwater runoff. Residents are encouraged to place their tree in a position that will maximize its energy-saving potential. The website provides tips on the best location for each species of tree.
