The City Commission will officially open the new Paws Park at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex with a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the park, located next to the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club at 2000 Turnbull Bay Road. The Southeast Volusia Humane Society will be on hand during the ribbon cutting to offer dogs for adoption and accept donations, along with members of the New Smyrna Beach Board of REALTORS, who contributed $8,000 to the $30,000 project.
The new park will be open from sunrise to sunset with updated amenities, including picnic tables, refurbished fire hydrants, doggie bag dispensers, and water hoses to refill provided pools and bowls.
According to a release, the 15,500 sq. ft. large dog area and 7,500 sq. ft. small dog area will receive shade from existing trees during the day and be lit with LED light poles at night. Much of the chain-link fencing used for the park was removed and repurposed from Turnbull Street Park, located nearby at 1220 Turnbull Street. All dogs must be vaccinated against rabies and have some form of identification indicating the owner’s name and current telephone number at all times.
