Restoration initiatives are in full swing at 27th Avenue Beachfront Park in New Smyrna Beach, which suffered extensive damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Nicole. Officials with the city and its engineering consultant are diligently pushing forward with restoration plans while eagerly anticipating FEMA's response to a mitigation proposal aimed at fortifying the park's infrastructure and stormwater drainage systems, thereby reducing the risk of future washouts.
Once FEMA provides feedback on the proposal, New Smyrna Beach will be equipped with crucial information to proceed with the design, engineering, and permitting stages. Key stakeholders, including Volusia County Government, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will coordinate with New Smyrna Beach city officials in assisting throughout the restoration.
Following the necessary consultations and approvals, the city plans to invite bids from local contractors to commence the reconstruction of 27th Avenue Beachfront Park. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, residents can look forward to witnessing the return of construction workers to the site as early as the beginning of 2024.
As the restoration project progresses, city officials will continue to provide updates to keep the community informed about the ongoing efforts and the anticipated timeline for completion.
