Sandbags are available for residents in coastal Volusia County areas.

Volusia County residents are preparing for, yet another storm system forecasted to affect the area by the middle to the end of the week. Multiple sandbags sites have opened up for residents ahead of Subtropical Storm Nicole in the following areas:

Ormond Beach 

A self-serve sand pile and fillable sandbags will be available at the Nova Community Center at 440 N Nova Road, and staff will be on location to help residents fill and load their bags. Self-service hours will be from Noon to Dark on Monday, November 7, 2022, and from 8:00 a.m. to Dark on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Ormond Beach residents can show their ID to receive up to ten complimentary fillable bags and should bring a shovel and help fill/load the bags into their vehicles.

Residents with special needs can request delivery of sandbags to their residence if they cannot fill or unload sandbags from their vehicle. Residents may request this service through an online form on the City’s website or by contacting the Public Works Department directly.

Daytona Beach

Sandbags will be available until 5 p.m. today, Monday, November 7, 2022, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, for Daytona Beach residents and business owners at Bethune Point Park, 11 Bellevue Ave. Residents should bring shovels, and Public Works staff will assist as needed. There is no charge for sandbags. There is a 10-bag limit per vehicle.

Ponce Inlet

The Town of Ponce Inlet began distributing sandbags over the weekend and continues to have sandbags available to Ponce Inlet residents thru Tuesday, November 8, at 4 p.m. at the Ponce Inlet Community Center, 4670 South Peninsula Drive. Residents should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill their bags. There is a limit of 10 bags per resident, and identification is required.

Port Orange

Sandbags will be available for Port Orange residents by the REC center (the old gymnasium at City Center Complex) at 4655 City Center Drive beginning at 11:00 a.m. today, Monday, November 7, until 5:00 p.m. and again Tuesday, November 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

South Daytona

Sand and bags will be available today, Monday, November 7 from noon to 4 p.m. and tomorrow, Tuesday, November 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at James Street Park, 1700 James Street. The city will provide bags, sand, and shovels. Residents must provide proof of residency. Please be prepared to fill your own bags.

New Smyrna Beach

Free sand piles are now available in the field south of the Sports Complex football stadium at 2335 Sunset Dr. Empty bags will be provided onsite; residents must bring their shovels.

Volusia County/Unincorporated Areas

Volusia County will provide free sand and empty sandbags to residents at the Volusia County Correctional Facility, 1354 Indian Lake Road, Daytona Beach, from Noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, November 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9.
