The City of New Smyrna Beach is continuing efforts to clear curbsides citywide by opening a local site for residents to drop off Hurricane Ian debris starting Thursday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, including weekends, at 495 Industrial Park Avenue.
According to a release, residents will receive priority, and commercial or contractor vehicles will not be permitted. Proof of City of New Smyrna Beach residency is required, and residents will be responsible for unloading their debris and emptying bagged waste. A family member may bring storm cleanup items to the site for an elderly or weakened resident with proof of residency showing where the debris originated. Residents are encouraged to bring separate yard, construction, and demolition debris, but items should not include electronic waste, tires, or large appliances.
The double-length grapple trucks from disaster response contractor, Phillips & Jordan, Inc., will continue clearing curbsides throughout the city seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. To date, they cleared over 46,000 cubic yards of debris and counting.
Contact the Citizen Information Center at (386) 402-7675 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for any questions or concerns.
