Michael J. Brown, 67, of New Smyrna Beach, was arrested Tuesday night after he stabbed an adult male, who wishes to remain anonymous, during an altercation at the Wal-Mart located off State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach.
According to police, New Smyrna Beach Police Officers and Volusia Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call following an argument between Brown and the adult male victim over a parking dispute.
The victim and his family were in the Wal-Mart parking lot alleyway waiting for a car to vacate a parking spot when Brown, who was on his motorcycle, approached from their left side. As he passed, Brown began screaming about the victim and his family being in the way in the alleyway.
Brown followed the victim and his family into the store while he continued the argument at the entrance near the produce section. Once inside the vestibule, Brown threatened to kill the victim before pulling out a pocket-knife and swinging it toward his neck. The victim grabbed Brown’s arm shaking the knife out of his hand, making the knife fall to the ground.
Picking up the pocket-knife, Brown quickly left the store. The victim followed Brown out into the parking lot, taking a video recording of Brown's motorcycle and license plate, before noticing a laceration on his left pinky finger.
The victim immediately notified police and Wal-Mart security of the incident and expressed that he wanted to press charges against Brown.
Volusia County Sheriff Deputies and Police Officers with the New Smyrna Beach Police Department located Mr. Brown at his residence on S. Samsula Drive in New Smyrna Beach and arrested him.
