New Smyrna Beach's South Causeway is the first in line to receive a new Roadway Weather Sensor System from the Florida Department of Transportation.
According to a release, this project will enhance Central Florida's emergency management and maintenance systems by installing remotely accessible sensors to continuously monitor wind speed, water level, and roadway surface conditions on various bridges across Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Sumter, and Volusia counties.
Construction for the new equipment will begin on Wednesday next week, and a single lane closure is required for the work to be completed. The closure of the eastbound lanes will begin on Wednesday, August 11, and run through Thursday, August 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Electronic message boards and other signage will be in place to alert motorists of road closures.
