Residents of an Oak Hill neighborhood called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Tuesday, with reports of a man acting erratically, and running through yards. The man, identified as George Cameron, 39, was suspected to be under the influence of narcotics.
According to the report, when deputies arrived on the scene around 10:30 p.m. the reporting individual stated the man was swimming in a nearby pond. The deputies found Cameron unresponsive in the water and immediately pulled him out, performing CPR with the help of Edgewater Police Officers until Volusia County paramedics arrived.
First responders took Cameron to AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, and Cameron's next of kin were notified of his passing. Detectives who investigated the incident learned that Cameron had been staying in a shed behind a home on Beacon Light Road in Oak Hill.
The official determination of the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the medical examiner.
