In a bustling scene adjacent to a towering mound of freshly excavated oyster shells, significant progress is underway on a new retaining wall at Old Fort Park, located at 115 Julia Street in New Smyrna Beach.
Construction crews are applying shotcrete—a specialized form of concrete propelled at high velocity onto vertical surfaces, a crucial step before waterproofing and drainage installations can begin next week.
According to a release, the wall will reopen to the public in mid-to-late November after curbing and sidewalk enhancements, removing temporary shoring, and laying fresh sod. Once the concrete has fully cured by late March, masonry work will begin on the exterior-facing wall to grind out existing cracks, install tie-bars, re-grout, and clean up.
