The City of New Smyrna Beach’s Maintenance Operations Director David Ray is hosting an open house on Monday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club located at 2000 Turnbull Bay Road for a new dog park adjacent to the club's parking lot by the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex.
According to a release, David will give a brief overview of the project, take questions and comments, and lead a walkthrough of the site with future fence lines marked on the grass to give attendees a sense of the park's size and scope. The current proposal calls for a 202 x 136 ft. park with areas for both small & large dogs serviced by potable water, light poles, and four gates surrounded by a six-foot-tall chain-link fence.
City commissioners approved the new dog park on April 12 as a replacement for amenities installed on Turnbull Street Park, which was closed effective July 5 last year due to concerns raised by nearby residents.
