Upcoming Public Forum for Proposed Historic Preservation
A Public Forum will be held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 20 in the James W. Hathaway Commission Chambers at 214 Sams Avenue in New Smyrna Beach to discuss proposed historic preservation initiatives. Proposed amendments include increasing fines for demolishing contributing structures without a permit and clarifying the proper procedures for doing so, expanding property tax exemptions and bringing them in line with Florida Statutes, specifying the difference between local and national historic districts as well as making other definitions easier to find, and more. Of note, no new design or construction regulations have been proposed for properties within either of New Smyrna Beach's two nationally registered historic districts.
